Al-Nuri Mosque was built in 1,172 and which also includes the Al-Hadba minaret, is currently being reconstructed in its old design by UNESCO after it was destroyed during the war against ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria). The mosque had a symbolic significance for ISIS, as its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, declared the so-called caliphate from inside the mosque.
