RUINS OF GODSTOW NUNNERY. Godstow.—The ruined vestiges of the old Nunnery here give specialinterest to a charming spot by the Thames, situate about two miles north ofOxford, and approached by one of the pleasantest of riverside walks. Thenunnery was founded by Edith, wife of Robert DOyley, in 1138 ; and withinits walls Fair Rosamond received her education, passed her later days in quietseclusion, and was buried before the high altar of the church. Godstow is reached by Walton Bridge, which is close to the northern terminusof the Walton-street tramway.
