He was born in Framingham and died inCambridge, May 3, 1896, aged 57 years. Colonel Jefferson Bancroft, ofLowell; three times mayor of that city; Warden of the State Prison andNestor of all county officials since the Colonial period, having served asDeputy Sheriff fifty-three years until his death, January 3, 1890, in theeighty-seventh year of his age.
