Under an anaesthetic, I have usedthe strength advocated by Apostoli,—namely, two hundred and fifty tothree hundred milliampcres. If the anode is applied within the uterus, itmust be of platinum or carbon; steel or copper will corrode. The activepart of the electrode is insulated with a rubber cover over that portionwhich does not enter the uterine cavity. In cases where an intra-uterineelectrode cannot be introduced, owing to the tortuous condition of the cavity, and where the tumor is accessible to the trocar-pointed electrode, whichmust always be made the negative pole, this is pushed directly into thegrowth from one-fourth to one-half inch, the precaution being used to havethe non-active part of the electrode insulated. Care must be taken to turn. Apostolus uterine electrodes.—1,natural size; A, ordinary hysterom-eter; B, trocar for puncture; F, notchmarking average depth of uterus; 2and 3, entire instrument reduced toone-third size; C, celluloid handleto protect the vagina; E, electrode ; D,thumb-screw to regulate the length ofthe exposed sound.
