SERGEANT-MAJOR WITH LONGEST SERVICE? - SSM of Green Lane, Dagenham, Essex. claims to have the longest period of continuous service among Sergeant-Majors in the British Army. He joined the Coldstream Guards in 1916 and was transferred to the Hampshires as Drum Major in 1936. He saw active service in Palestine with this Regiment. In 1940 he volunteered for the Reconnaissance Corps and was accepted in January 1941. He has since served with the Recce Corps in North Africa, and landed early at Anzio. SSM Dennis has a son, aged 19 years, now serving with the Coldstream Guards British Army
