Klosterstraße U-Bahn underground railway station serves the U 2 line in Mitte, Berlin. Interior with tiled walls & pictures of historic buses & trains. It is named after the Graues Kloster, a medieval Franciscan abbey. The station opened on 1 July 1913 on the eastern continuation of Berlin's second U-Bahn line from Spittelmarkt to Alexanderplatz. The station was designed by Architect Alfred Grenander who originally planned a station with three tracks. The branch towards Große Frankfurter Straße was never built and in 1930 was replaced by the U5 line. The station has protected landmark status and has been restored to its original appearance. A historic A-I type train carriage is installed at the north end of the platform.
