Comet of 1664-5. Historical illustration of the orbit of the comet seen in the night sky from November 1664. By December this was one of the brightest comets of the time, reported in many publications across Europe. It was seen again in January 1665, and was last seen in March 1665. Modern astronomers have designated the 1664-5 comet as C/1664 W1. The observations shown here are for 7-19 December 1664 and 25 December 1664 to 25 January 1665. This diagram is from 'Grundliche und zu Erorterung ... End des Jahrs 1664 und im Anfang 1665 erschienen Cometen' (Nuremberg, 1665) by German astronomer Abdias Trew (1597-1669).
