One day, in order to pass the time, I went huntingin the neighbourhood, but it was a most disagreeableexperience. For fully two hours I waded in waterup to my neck, the prey of countless bloodthirstymosquitoes, until I reached comparatively dry then the grass was so long that I could not seeany game, and I toiled wearily back to the boat withan empty bag. On the 17th of September we reached Lake Ambadi,where the Djur joins the Bahr-el-Ghazal proper, andfound the river steamer Zafir waiting to conveyus down the Nile. (Illus. 222.)
