Members of the florists' club to the number of IS journeyed to Canajoharie for the September meeting, which wels held at the establishment of Joseph Traudt. Most of the Albanians went in automobiles and enjoyed the trip, about 60 miles. At Canajoharie Mr. Traudt, and some of those who had ar- rived earlier, were waiting at the of- fice of the Beechnut Packing Company to escort the visitors through the plant. It was a Saturday afternoon and none of the departments were in operation. Nevertheless two special guides took the party through the big buildings and explained many interesting proces- ses in detail. The ingenious machinery that seals the jars by inserting them into a huge cylinder, from which the air is pumped and then the caps pressed into place automatically, made a great impres- sion. Each jar is thus sealed in a vacuum and is air tight until the tin cover is punctured before used. The machines that grind roasted and blended peanuts into peanut but- ter were a study, as were also the rows of small automatic machines in a room with double glass enclosures, where the chewing gum is turned out. The visitors noticed the large sheet iron ducts overhead which, during the working hours, brought from a plant in the. basement washed and filtered air into the workrooms, thus control- ling both the temperature and humid- ity.
