Blue hazy white clouds sunny day view, south across Ribble Estuary, ice floes on surface of high tide, Fairhaven, Lancashire, UK

The winter of 2010-2011 included the coldest December since Met Office Records began in 1910. The mean December 2010 temperature was minus 1 degree Celsius. In some places the temperature was down to minus 10 degrees Celsius (14 F). Late November to Boxing Day 2010 included two spells of severe winter weather in the UK withe very low temperatures and significant snowfall. The beach between Fairhaven and St Annes, on Lancashire's Fylde Coast, in December 2010 displayed large areas of land-fast sea ice, several centimetres thick. Blue sky hazy white clouds view, looking south across the River Ribble Estuary, of large ice floes on the surface of a high tide, from a beach with land-fast sea ice, west of the Outer Promenade at Fairhaven.
