Ornamental Knots.—These are shown in Figs. 558and 559, and are used to form ornamental knots down andfront of a jacket or dress. To be made with stout silkcord. To make Fig. 558 : Form a loop by crossing the ends,. Fio. 558. Ornamental Knot. and turn both ends upward, make the longer of the loopsthe end that crosses to the right, and cross it over the left-hand cord. Hold the loop in the left hand, between fingerand thumb, or press it down upon the table, take the right-hand end of the cord, round it, and bring it into themiddle of the loop, simply crossing over it; then put ittinder the left-hand cord, outside the loop, and bring itout to the right side, pass it there over itself and underthe right cord of the loop and into the loop, then over itselfand out of the loop under the round at the all the loops thus made evenly together, run in thesecond cord, and then pull up tightly. By making thisknot at once with a piece of doubled cord, with the loopformed by doubling the cord used as the short left-handend, a loop for a Buttonhole for a jacket, finished with anOrnamental Knot, is formed.
