A late 19th Century illustration of the events of the 15th of May, 1848, when an immense mob assembled in the streets of Paris, proceeded to the hall of the National Assembly, drove out the members, and proclaimed Socialism and Communism, the imposition of taxes upon the rich for the benefit of the poor, and the restoration of the guillotine. The mob also appointed an executive government composed of the Communist leaders, but the National Guard declared for the National Assembly, dispersed the mob at the point of the bayonet, and restored order.
