Transcription: Camp Near Coliersvill[Collierville] February the 13th / 63 Dear Sister I Received your kind letter Dated January 29th it found me in prety good Helth But not as good as night Bee for I Have Been Botherd with the Diaree[diarrhea] for the last three Days But I have Not Been of dewty yet But if it sticks to mee for a few days longer I shall Have to stop riding wee Have Been very Busy since wee came to this place and Have lost a great many men Our regiment Misses its old officers wee Have lost more men in Battle since the Death of Colonel Mc Culough[McCullough] than wee Had lost all the time Before the officers is Brave enough But they Dont manage Right they send the men out in too small squads to fight the forces that comes a ganst us and our men Has not Been in the Habit of Being whiped so they fight till the Rebels gets the advantage then they take them prisners wee Have Had 13 men taken prisners 7 wounded and 6 killed since wee came to this place there is No other Cavelry Here But ours and it takes 36 privates and 3 Non commissioned oficers eavry day to stand picket that takes 78 men out of the Regiment from a scout when wee ar orderd out and there is Not over 300 afective men that is Reported fit for Dewty at the present time there Has Been one Death in our company Since I wrote to you last He was one of the New Recruits His Name was Samuel Ramsy a very likely young man His age was a Bout 19 years He Died at lagrange[La Grange] Hospitle wee left Him there Before wee went to Boliver[Bolivar] after wee came Here His Brother took the cars and went up to see Him But He was Dead and Buried some 3 or 4 Days Before He got there there is several sick in our company at this present time But None of them very Dangerous I Dont think Dear sister the fatigue of a soldier is a Nough to ware out any Man in the corse of time the wether is fair and warm here now But it Has Been very wet all this Month up to the pre
