View of the famous tower of Belem or Torre de Belem, Lisbon, Portugal. The Belém Tower was built between 1514 and 1520 in a Manuelino style by the Portuguese architect and sculptor Francisco de Arruda. The Tower was first built to defend Lisbon, many years later it was made into a lighthouse and also a customs office. It was classified as a World Heritage Site in 1983 by UNESCO.
