Head Gardner Robert James tending the 160 year old laurel maze in the National Trust's Glendurgan Gardens near Falmouth, Cornwall. The maze gets clipped right down to knee height but quickly regrows more than 4ft in a season. It is cherry laurel, planted in 1833 by Sarah and Alfred Fox to amuse their 12 children .
