Solar system planets and Sun, artwork. The Sun (pink, background) makes up over 99 percent of the mass of the solar systems. The eight planets and Pluto (not longer a planet) are shown here in their order from the Sun from top to bottom. At upper left, the four small, rocky planets of the inner solar system are: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. The four large, gas giant planets of the outer solar system are: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Pluto (top right) is a dwarf planet of rock and ice that orbits at the outer edges of the solar system. Distances not to scale.
