A cenotaph is an empty tomb or a monument erected in honour of a person or group of people whose remains lie elsewhere. Here we see the Cenotaph on Horse Guards Parade, sandwiched between Whitehall and St James Park in central London. It is the site of the annual ceremonies of Trooping the Colour, which commemorates the monarch's official birthday. And here we see a Household Cavalry guard in shiny helmet and holding his sword, standing watch over the tourists - as always. Some things never change. Nor, perhaps, should they.
