Theback stage is seldom used, except for the purpose of obtainingperspective. According to a crude solution of the problem ofstage perspective, distance may be preserved by not allowingthe actors to approach or move immediately against distantbackgrounds. Some day, when a new stage arrives, a moresatisfactory solution will be found. Till then the undiminish-ing actor must keep away from receding landscapes.
