If daylight is to be used, the windows must be protected sothat outsiders cannot see into the room, and yet the supply oflight must be curtailed as little as possible. If there are lacecurtains in the window they may be pinned securely together,or the windows may be covered with newspapers, white wrap-ping paper, or cheese-cloth. Another method is to cover theglass with whiting mixed with water to the consistency of athick paste, as it would be used for cleaning silver. There isno danger that this covering will fall off, and it scarcely inter-feres at all with the passage of light. The operating-table is tobe placed in such a position that the light will fall over theleft shoulder of the surgeon. In the daytime the back of theoperators chair should be towards the window, and at night the CURETTAGE. 251 patients buttocks should lie directly under the middle of thechandelier.
