. Rhythmic action plays and dances; a book of original games and dances, arranged progressively, to Mother Goose and other action songs, with a teaching introductory; for the kindergarten, primary schools, playground and gymnasium. CLAP. Raise the left hand forward about waist high, palm facing upward; slap the palm of the left hand withthe fingers of the right. This way is less liable to stingand will make a louder noise than when the palms are strucktogether. The position is a very convenient one from whichto pass to other movements, it does not involve rotat-ing the forearm as is necessary when the fingers are CURTSY. Step backward on the right foot; bend theright knee, straighten left leg and incline the body slightlyforward. At the same time the skirts may be grasped ateither side and spread sideways. KNEELING. To kneel in a dance, bend the left knee and place the right knee onthe floor, from which position it is very easy to arise and continue the dance. FINGER SHAKE. Raise the left arm forward waisthigh, forearm parallel to the floor, palm facing the right elbow lightly on the back of the left handand raise the right forearm perpendicular to the left the right forefinger upward. In shaking the fingerthe movement is not so much a flexion of the elbow as arotation of the forearm which turns the finger about onethird of a circle from right to left, thus turning the pointof the finger toward partner. The finger shake may be ex-pressive of accusation, inquisition, derision, playful demon-stration of vivacity or mischievous display of tender senti-ment. 17
