Members of the Army Combat Pictorial Detachment carry a casket containing the remains of a member of the 3rd Bn., 502nd Inf., 101st Airborne Div., out of a temporary morgue at Gander Airport. On December 12, 1985, 248 soldiers of the 3rd Battalion were killed in a plane crash at the airport. They were returning to the United States after participating in peacekeeping duty with the Multi-national Force and Observers in the Sinai Desert.
