This memorial is dedicated to a Victoria Cross winner, Second Lieutenant Donald S. Bell, and is known as "Bell's Redoubt".


This memorial is dedicated to a Victoria Cross winner, Second Lieutenant Donald S. Bell, and is known as "Bell's Redoubt". Donald Bell is believed to be the first professional football player to join up in 1914. He played for Bradford Park Avenue. He won his on the 5th July 1916 for attacking and destroying a German machine gun post. He was killed on the 10th July whilst attempting a similar attack. The memorial was dedicated on the 9th July 2000 and was supported by the Friends of the Green Howards Museum and the Professional Footballers Association.
