In Newfoundland, as in all lobster producing countries,there is a great danger of these valuable crustaceans being ex-terminated or the fishery being rendered fishing and the capturing of immature lobsters are thecauses of the decline. Stringent rules are now enforced, andin addition, the Department of Fisheries are carrying on an ex-tensive system of artificial propagation of lobsters in each ofthe large bays, with the view of counteracting the destruction NEWFOUNDLAND. 61
