The Columbian (Jrgan, which did ser\ice in Festival Hall atthe Chicago Ex-position of 1893,was purchasedthe }ear follow-ing b}- the Uni-\ersit}- MusicalSociet}, and pre-sented to theUni\ersity. Setup in the rear ofthe platform inthe Auditoriumof University-Hall, it is a fittingmemorial of S. Frieze, towhom it is dedi-cated. Tappan Hall,exclusi\el}- de-voted to thepurposes of in-struction, ■\vasfirst occupied atthe opening ofthe year 1894-1895. From a timesoon followingthe introductionof gas into Ann Arbor, which occurred in1857, until 1898, the Uni\crsit\- buildings werelighted from the City Gas Works.
