John Lowndes McLaurin (1860-1934) One mile west is the last home of John Lowndes McLaurin, Marlboro County native, Congressman and Senator. He served as Representative 1890-91, Attorney General 1891-92, Congressman 1892-97, Senator 1897-1903, and State Warehouse Commissioner 1915-17. The mill pond west of here bears his name. Erected by the Marlboro County Historic Preservation Commission, 1972
