The small city of New castle, Delaware was originally settled by Sweden, taken by the Dutch and ultimately the English in the 18th century. William Penn landed here to take possession of his claim granted by the British Crown. At the time of the American Revolution it was the state capitol until the Capitol was move to Dover, Delaware, in 1777 during the American Revolution.
