Andrea Doria - SS Stockholm. Looking down on the decks from air off the starboard bow as the ANDREA DORIA begins her downward voyage into the sea, there can be seen debris spilled over the side and the lifeboats on the port side still in their davits. The death of the 656-foot, 29,082-ton luxury liner from Genoa, Italy, resulted from a collision with the SS STOCKHOLM, a 510-foot, 12,644-ton passenger liner from Stockholm, Sweden, in a fog 205 miles east of New York, 55 miles south of Nantucket Island, on July 25, 1956.
