Upholstered Armchair, Mahogany, soft maple, 42 1/2 × 22 1/8 × 23 1/4 in. ( × × cm), Straight, molded legs, usually called Marlborough legs, became popular in the 1760s. Here they combine with the serpentine back and arm supports to provide a sense of style to a form that remained largely unchanged throughout the eighteenth century.
