Antigorite mineral. This hydrated magnesium silicate mineral has the chemical formula (OH)4, with a monoclinic crystal structure. Antigorite occurs in igneous and metamorphic rocks, often in tough lamellated and pleated masses that are dark green to light green or brown, with a silky lustre. This sample, 7 centimetres high, is from Zermatt, Switzerland. Photographed at the Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren, Belgium.
