I was about to see my first branchlibrary and meet its librarian. The welcome was a warm one, as was theday. We were chatting about the aims of the consultant position tospeakers of Spanish, when all of a sudden, the small library which I mustsay consists of a small room adjoining the local fire truck station, becameengulfed with about 50 young people. We had company from the near-by schools fourth and fifth grades. They all wanted books and morebooks and so they met head-on with four librarians. I was spotted almostimmediately and put to work. The children did not hesitate
