Slinter Weir on the Bonsall Brook near to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, Derbyshire, England, UK

18th Century workings required waterpower and settling lagoons on the fast flowing limestone streams, such as here on the Bonsall Brook near Cromford in Derbsyhire. Slinter Weir is an old structure that once played a kety role in the earliest stirrings of the British Industrial revolution. Today it is rarely visited but once it was part of the location for World's first industrial revolution. The constantly flowing limestone streams of the Derbyshire Peak District provided year-round water to power the mills in the Derwent Valley, such as at Cromford. This was the site of Richard Arkwright's first factory, the very first factory in the World. The area is now designated World Heritage Site.
