It is acompact device, holding paper and carbons in a convenient■form, so that orders can be written on an exposed order blankin the face of the register. After writing an order, by turninga crank the conductor can withdraw two of the copies of theorder, one for the motorman and one for himself. The thirdcopy remains in the register, and the register cannot be openedby anyone save the manager of the road, who has the key. Inreceiving orders the conductor writes the order and reads it back to the despatcher for the despatchers complete. Inter-urban cars do not stop at every street crossing in the city, butonly at places designated as interurban stopping places, whichplaces are marked by signs about every four blocks.
