In the criticismof that period there may be detected an attemptat diligent and thoughtful elucidation of the gen-eral inward meaning of the studies which the au-thor published year by year. A successful attempt of this sort was made bythe noted philosopher N. N. Strakhoff, in a fineand profound article published in The Dawn(1871).
