St Jean Baptiste and Béguinage church, Brussels, Belgium. Place du Béguinage, Beguinage square, Brussels, Belgium. St Cathérine neighborhood. Stepan Cathérine area. For many it is one of the most beautiful Belgian churches and was built in 1676 by Lucas Fard'herbe, a Flemish sculptor disciple of Rubens, who also participated in the creation of the Grand Place. Late Baroque facade represents the architectural trends of the seventeenth century, especially in its towers and decoration of its walls. The altar is Louis XVI style and the central medallion depicting the Holy Family. The pulpit, 1757, is dedicated to Santo Domingo, the founder of the domi-mechanics. The church suffered a fire in the past decade and was restored in 2000.
