, Sarajevo, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina - The siege of Sarajevo began on 5th of April 1992 and is the longest in the town's history. The city center of Sarajevo was completely surrounded. According to the Bosnia and Herzegovina government, the siege and the fighting resulted in the deaths of 10615 people from all ethnic groups, including 1601 children. 50000 people suffered injuries, in some cases severe, from granades, mines or sharpshooters.
