Monument to The Great Flood of 1838, Budapest showing the area flooded and the high-water mark. The river spilled out and destroyed settlements all the way from Esztergom to Pest. The entire Pest side was underwater, where more than 150 drowned and more than 50,000 left homeless. The devastating effect of the Great Flood of 1838 has been compared to that of the Great Fire of London of 1666. Bill Brand BillBrand
