To THE Hon. the Minister of Agriculture : Sir.—I beg to submit herewith my report as Inspector of Fumigation Appliances,in the Ontario nurseries. Visit to Maryland. Pursuant to your instructions, I left Guelph for Maryland on Thursday afternoon,March 30fch, to inquire into the best modes of fumigation as practised in that was reached the next afternoon (Good Friday)—too late, however, to makeany inquiries that day. Next morning I called on Dr. L, O. Howard, U. S. Entomolo-gist, and Prof. Marlatt, his first assistant, who cheerfully gave me much informationregarding their work in the Division of Entomology, and elsewhere. The latter showedme the fumigation house in which he had done experimental work, and pointed out verycarefully the defects as well as the merits of the house. Both of the
