Global Warming Effects Flash Flood Overspill beginning to result in ground erosion. XPL 4981-465

Global warming is thought to be caused by increasing amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, so it absorbs long wave (infrared) radiation which the earth radiates out, and sends it back towards the earth, which in turn causes the temperature to get warmer. The greenhouse effect is a natural process, without which the earth would be too cold to support life as we know it. The CO2 only enhances the grenhouse effect. As the earth is not known exactly what will happen. Theories range from changing ocean currents, which would have major effects on the earth's climate distribution, to increasing strength of hurricanes, to rising sea levels. These changes will take place gradually over time.
