The canopy over the throneis green, white, and red; and before the throne is atable, covered with a cloth of the same colors. Overthe throne hangs a triple interlaced triangle of broadbars, two of which are white, and one black; and inits centre the letter \ Instead of a gavel, the presidingofficer uses an arrow, the plume of which is red on oneside and green on the other, the spear white, and thepoint gilded. By the altar is a statue or statuette of white marble,the naked figure of a virgin. Over it is a drapery of 16* 370 BOOK OF THE A. AND A. thin white gauze. This represents Truth, and is thepalladium of the Order of Princes of Mercy. Th^ altar, placed in the centre of the room, is of atriangular shape, each side measuring 18 inches, andits height being 36 inches. The top is a plate, likegold, on which, formed of different colored stones, isthe word HUT1 ; an(^ under that a passion cross, oneither side of which, above the arms, are the Greekletters fc xe- At each corner is a flame of brass.
