Flashing from commutator to brush holders and tt)nearby frames, increases the operating expense and liability oftrouble. THREE-PHASE MOTORS. Three-phase motors are now established for a limited use. They areknown as constant-speed motors to distinguish them from series orvariable-speed motors; yet the speed of three-phase motors can bevaried in several ways, as will be detailed under Control of Motors. Theacceleration of three-phase motors is at a full rate up to full speed, andthis characteristic calls for high-power peaks on the motor, the line, andthe power plant.
