He enlisted inthe 1 ith Battalion Gordon Highlanders inNovember 1915, and was commissioned to the1 st Battalion in the following December. Aftertraining in Aberdeen and Bridge of Allan he wentto France in September 1916, but his term offoreign service was very brief. He was woundedat Beaumont-Hamel on 13 November, and died14 November 1916 of the wounds he had receivedin action the previous day.
