Las Vegas, Nevada - Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument, a rich paleontological area established in December 2014 to protect fossils of such extinct species as American lions, ground sloths, camelops, several horse varieties, and the Columbian mammoth. In the 1962 "Big Dig," scientists dug long trenches, some of which are still visible, and found many large animal fossils.
