Stock pile of processed 20mm gravel or shingle after quarrying from sandstone quarry

A quarry is a type of open pit mine generally used for extracting sand aggregate for building materials. It is usually shallower than other open pit mines. Continual prospecting or exploration takes place to identify new seams or areas for quarrying. The materials extracted are processed by crushing, grinding, screening or grading and often washed until the required product quality is achieved. Finally the aggregates are stored in separate areas to avoid mixing and hence product pollution Sites are restored or rehabilitated after use to reduce negative impact on the environment and to maximize safety.
