A straight needle, thirteen lineslong, being then armed with a silk ligature, doubled so as to form a noosefolly six inches long at one of its free ends, the bent extremity of a leadenwire of small size was fastened to it, and then by forceps and a porte-needleintroduced through the edges of the ulcer, so as to form the first stitch ofthe leaden suture, the ends of the leaden thread being loosely twisted, so asnot to pucker the edges of the fistula.
