The chemist and druggist [electronic resource] . in Birmingham fidceas to Itoep ifireshbDooxtf) f(lw6oDg.„. I would like to thank theorganisers of the YPG Hustingsin Solihull last weekend. It isclearly desirable thatpharmacists be given theopportunity to see and hear thecandidates standing for electionto the Council, and high timethis idea was adopted by theRoyal Pharmaceutical Society. In addition to the reforms Ihave proposed in my manifesto,I would like to see the make-upof Council better reflect themembership of the Society. At present, the Council isoverburdened with academicpharmacists despite thenumerical strength ofcommunity pharmacists. Throughout its existence theRPSGB has relied upon theexpertise of communitypharmacists to guide it to itspresent prosperity. I would urgethe electorate to redress theimbalance and put communitypharmacists once again in thedriving seat. Also, in order tobring in fresh blood on a regularbasis, I propose the followingchanges: • Members of the Councilshould not be allowed to sit for. The Duce Pharmacy in Woodbridge, Suffolk, has won Rocs 1993 PureBeauty Centre Retail Sales Performance Award, having achieved a 340 percent increase since becoming a centre in 1982. Jim Hall, Roc salesmanager (second left), presents proprietor John Duce with the prize of aweekend for two in Paris. The two hard-working staff who will be makingthe trip are Caroline Young (left) and Pauline Churchyard more than three consecutiveterms, but after a one-year breakwould be eligible for re-election • The treasurer of the Societyshould be a salaried employee • In order that departmentalheads (including the secretary)do not become stale in theirjobs, fixed-term renewablecontracts should be offered. I sense not only the need forchange, but the will to changeamong my colleagues and wouldurge all pharmacists to use theirvote to bring about a change. Clive Murray Tipton, West Midlands
