4,000 and 5,000 people, according to calculations by some of the conveners, have demonstrated this afternoon in Madrid to ask the Government to stop the escalation of prices and adopt social support measures for the most vulnerable citizens and families. The rain that has fallen during the afternoon has not prevented the march of the demonstration called by , UGT, UPTA, Uatae, Facua and CEAV and that has traveled the section between Atocha and Plaza de Jacinto Benavente without notable incidents. The general secretaries of and UGT, Unai Sordo and Pepe Álvarez, respectively; the heads of the self-employed organizations UPTA and Uatae, Eduardo Abad and María José Landaburu; Ignacio Tudela (Facua), and Manuel Osuna (CEAV), stood at the head of the march behind a banner with the slogan 'Contain prices, protect employment, we must stop the deterioration of our living conditions'. This has been one of the 58 demonstrations called for today throughout Spain. Upon arrival at the one in Madrid, the union leaders have sent messages addressed to the EU, the Spanish Government and the CEOE employers. Between tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, Europe faces a similar challenge to when it had to decide whether to set up the recovery funds financed with common debt. The decision made on allowing energy, electricity and inflation prices to drop is decisive for the future of Spain and the EU", Sordo pointed out. For his part, Álvarez denounced that this system for setting prices "is ruining the self-employed, citizens and some companies" and has highlighted that all of Europe "cries" for a change in the regulation of energy prices. The Spanish Government has been asked to deploy a "wide catalog" of measures to support the sectors most impacted by high energy prices and accompanying measures for vulnerable people with lower incomes, who cannot afford to pay their electricity bill or have their rent revalued according to inflation.
