And they ascend-ed up to heaven in a cloud ;and their enemies 13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake,and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquakewere slain of men seven thousand : and the remnantwere affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. 14 The second wo is past; and behold, the third woCometh quickly. John is still giving intimations of whattook place in the western empire, duringthe sixth trumpet, without special regard tothe order of every event. Soon after thewo of the sixth trumpet, so far as it relatedto the conquests of the Turks, had ceased,John, in vision, hears an earthquake. Anearthquake, in prophecy, is the symbol ofa violent revolution, either religious or po-litical. Now what earthquake took placein the west soon after the cessasion of thewo of the sixth trumpet in the east.
