Maldon Essex UK 2nd June 2024. Hundreds of competitors take part in the 50th Anniversary Maldon Mud race. The race is run on a 450 metre course across the River Blackmore from a spot in the towns Promenade Park and can only take place at low tide. This event originated in the 70's when a local man was challenged to don a tuxedo to serve a meal on the bank of the river. This later led to a race across the river where locals had to drink a pint from a waiting barrel of beer before racing back again.
