Poland's most famous poet and writer of the epic poem "Pan Tadeusz". He is surrounded by the allegorical figures of Motherland Learning Poetry and Valour. Beyond is the Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) which was originally built in 14 th century, but after being gutted by fire in 1555, was rebuilt in Renaissance style. The arcades were added in the late 19 th century.
