There were originally four cemeteries on this land and two still exist - the French cemetery and the Dorotheenstadt cemetery. The Dorotheenstadt cemetery was established jointly by the two Protestant parishes in the early 1760s – the Dorotheenstadt and Friedrichswerder Parishes. The graveyard has listed landmark status and houses the graves and honorary graves of several prominent people and a collective monument honouring the Resistance fighters killed during the Nazi regime.
